Banks Peninsula

Banks Peninsula is a region of unsurpassed natural beauty created by the spectacular mountainous forms. Its volcanic birth, distinctive flora and fauna and undulating coastline have fascinated since its discovery. This varied coast provides a wide range of leisure pursuits from surfing, swimming and sailing to coastal tramping. The Peninsula waters and coast provide ample fishing opportunities - there are many varieties of shellfish in the bays and good populations of many fish types including Flounder and Red Cod [locally known as Akaroa Cod].
A challenging game of golf at Duvauchelle can be followed by a relaxing lunch at the harbours local winery, French Farm. On the way back to Akaroa call into the historic Barrys Bay cheese factory to sample and buy the gourmet local produce and speciality cheeses.
