Location

Just 75 kilometres from the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, Akaroa is a historic settlement
nestled on a harbour created by two ancient volcanos. Christchurch is the major city in the South Island and has a very well connected international airport - you can be in the peaceful ambience of Akaroa in just over an hour.

The drive from Christchurch to Akaroa provides a rich variety of scenery from Lake Ellesmere on the plains through the small town of Little River and onto the volcanic hills that surround Akaroa Harbour.
